Global Crisis Management Summit 2026
Great to have spoken at the Global Crisis Management Summit Europe 2026 in Amsterdam this week on “Product Risk 2.0: How to Navigate Through the Perfect Storm?”
In my session, I emphasized that the GPSR, the revised Product Liability Directive and collective redress are fundamentally changing the European product risk landscape on consumer products (non-food). With enhanced market surveillance, mandatory reporting obligations and unprecedented transparency, product safety issues are likely to be detected earlier, become public faster and lead to more frequent recalls and claims.
For companies, this means that product compliance is no longer just a regulatory exercise. It has become a key risk management discipline. The GPSR becomes a “liability gateway” towards the PLD. The question is no longer simply: Are my products safe? It is also: Is my organisation litigation-ready when product safety is challenged?
The proof is in the pudding.
👉 My key message to the insurance market: Rather than viewing the GPSR and the new PLD solely as a burden, a pro-active approach, smarter underwriting and assist in stronger product safety governance can help prevent and mitigate risks while creating new opportunities for the insurance market.
