EU Product Safety Gate Annual report 2025
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴:
– In 2025, the Commission reported 4,671 alerts, the highest level to date, and 5,794 follow-up actions, up 35%;
– Cosmetics (36%), toys (16%), and electrical appliances/equipment (11%) were the top categories;
– Chemical risk was the leading risk type at 53%.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗣𝗦𝗥 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲:
– more than 1,200 online marketplaces were registered
– an EU web crawler inspected more than 1.6 million URLs
– more than 20,800 URLs were found to contain dangerous products
𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆:
👉 The report shows where future disputes may come from due to stronger market surveillance and better traceability on platforms;
👉 Evidence trails are improving and digital enforcement is scaling, with immediate cross-border visibility once a product is flagged;
👉 For companies operating across multiple EU markets, this creates exposure to (class action) claims in different jurisdictions.
